5 Easy Ways To Make Your Rented Room Feel Like Home

5 Easy Ways To Make Your Rented Room Feel Like Home
Moving out from the family home into your first rented property or house-share is a big step. There’s so much to think about. Once you’ve found the perfect rented property in the right place, you need to make sure it really feels like somewhere you want to spend time. At Blue i Properties, we love helping our tenants to feel at home. We do everything we can to make sure that their rented property works out for them and we also provide support as and when required. However, there some simple but effective things that our tenants can do themselves to make their rented room feel like just like a home from home:

1. Don’t forget the door!
Before you head on into the room, let’s pause for a moment and think about the all-important gateway – your door! It may not seem important, but in our experience, adding a personal touch to your door can really add to that homely feel. We’ve seen some great examples where our tenants have placed pictures on their door, either personal photos or an image which sums them up, whether it’s a plant, an animal or a place they love. Either way, it immediately introduces that all-important personality. Every time you head to your room, you’ll be giving yourself a personalised welcome!

2. Sniff it out
Mmm… What’s that smell? Is it the gentle waft of flowers or the pong of old food? We all notice smells and no wonder, considering that our olfactory abilities were the first sense we human beings developed when we became human beings! Smell makes a home. At Blue i, we’ve seen both the best and the worst of this in our long history in property! The tenants who really succeed in feeling at home are those who spend a little bit of money on scent sticks or josticks to create the perfect ambience in their room, whether it’s with the gentle aroma of vanilla, rosemary or pomegranate. So, why not find a scent that works for you and make your room your own?

3. Bed down
Now, we know it may sound a little obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people forget the impact of a well-made bed. We think of the bed as “the biggest picture in the room”! Invest in some really good quality, nice looking bedding, make it up well and you’ll instantly create a stunning focal point for your room. This also includes considering what you put on the bed. As you can see from the photo above, our tenants have some great ideas for making their bed a focal point for their cuddly “friends” and it all helps to make their room really feel like home!

4. Pick a theme
Don’t overlook the home-making powers of a theme for your room décor. Not only does it express your personality, but it also brings the room to life. Why not pick out some key pieces you already have and make them the focus? Flowers, animals, sea, travel - it could be whatever works for you! Your décor is the signature of your personality and brings so much life to your room that you’ll love spending time there! Another tip: the wall opposite the bedroom door is the ideal spot for your main poster (with careful use of pins or picture hooks, of course!) as this is the first thing you’ll see as you enter the room.

5. Put your loved ones in the frame
Home isn’t just a place. It’s people too! That’s why photos of your loved ones will really help to make your rented room feel like it’s all yours. Here’s one tip that we know one of our tenants won’t mind us sharing: why not attach photos of your family and friends to one long piece of brightly coloured string and hang it from one end of the room to the other? It creates an instant feature and will help you feel like friends and family are close by!
